Jean-Luc Fillon with his band OBOA, unusual alloy of the oboe, the tambourine and the piano, already proposed a new approach of the jazz in trio. Both albums of this trio, Oboa and Flea Market, illustrate marvelously a jazz in the Mediterranean influences. Today, the Jazz nomad of OBORIGINS invites us in a journey tinged with East, in a timeless walk.
Three artists, creators and talented improvisers, galvanized by this picturesque sound alchemy, are going to draw from their collective memory the elements of an imaginary story, a musical and poetic fresco, a musical language in the course of invention.
3 stars Jazzman – “Melodic”
"The lovers of silky and generous jazz (without ever passing in strength through eardrums) can be delighted at the release of this recording of the oboist and the player of cor anglais Jean-Luc Fillon. Surrounded with musicians in empathy, he offers us a sophisticated musical walk splendidly recorded. "..."The compositions, quite written by the leader establish(constitute) remarkable springboards for the flight of the soloists "..." This nomad jazz is an invitation in the journeys. An openness to the world. "
Renaud Czarnes - Jazzman (75.000 readers) - January 2009
Oborigins transports us towards the East, to investigate its original dimension" " a primitive world rich in modal colors, dancing as a flame, an almost enchanted world where the life expresses itself spontaneously. " "The music of this album is certainly brilliant, quite as Jean-Luc Fillon's play. His tone is at once close and distant of the saxophone soprano, but his originality lives rather in the phrasing: He exploits with happiness a whole range of ornaments. Of what to give ideas to all the instrumentalists!
Martin Guerpin - Jazz Magazine - janvier 2009
"Very funny Miss Shangaï, introduced an album of spring jazz marked by the improvisation, in the instrumental variety piano, percussions, bare oboe at the same time as asserted, in a sure orientalism. We shuffle from track to track with this unique feeling of a collection of sense at the same time as a sound jubilation constantly. With a tribute supported to Monk, this mixture between wisdom and frivolity gives a biting tone, almost by automockery in this album, as a morning sun gives envy to become bolder, to leave the nose to the wind of the world."
