Snakes and ladders est un jeu de société anglais d’origine très ancienne, qui se joue à l’aide d’un plateau et d’un dé. Cet album Snakes and Ladders est le prolongement, la suite, et certainement la conclusion du premier disque réalisé en 1992 par Sophia Domancich “Funerals”. A l’image du jeu, son titre symbolise le trajet parcouru entre ces deux enregistrements.

Une brève collaboration avec le chanteur Robert Wyatt a été, pour Sophia Domancich, le point de départ de ce travail qui explore la relation entre poésie, musique et chanson.
Avec un ordinateur, Sophia a mis en musique des poèmes écrits par Jacqueline Cahen-Sergent, processus complexe de création dans lequel il est question de la nature du mot, de son sens, et de son son. Le re-recording a été de mise pour l’enregistrement et le travail de post–production a été fondamental……
Et le résultat est surprenant…. Loin des sentiers battus, Sophia Domancich nous délivre un album complètement original, entre jazz et pop anglaise….
